Musical Notes: Put some Jazz in Your Lent

“When in our music God is glorified…”

The Duke Street DeaconsWe are pleased to welcome ‘The Duke Street Deacons, a local Dixieland Jazz ensemble that will play during the traditional service on March 3. They will be helping us gear up for Lent by providing the music of Mardi Gras. The service begins at 10:45 p.m., but they will be playing a few numbers before the service. Don’t miss this great opportunity to hear some wonderful traditional music, and to celebrate Mardi Gras right here in our sanctuary!

The Duke Street Deacons are a group of seven musicians in York, Pennsylvania dedicated to the performance and preservation of traditional New Orleans style Dixieland music. Founded in 2006, the Deacons’ repertoire includes ragtime, blues, and spirited up-tempo selections representative of the Dixieland style from its earliest beginnings through the migration of many southern musicians northward to cities such as Memphis, Kansas City, and Chicago.
