The Book Club is going to have its first meeting this month on September 18 at 6:30 p.m. We will start off by handing out the book: The Red Tent, by Anita Diamant. At this first meeting, we will talk about what other books we may want to read. This book club aims to combine fiction with Christian themes or history.
The main character of The Red Tent is Dinah, daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph. She is a minor character in the Bible, and is only briefly mentioned during the Book of Genesis, which focuses more on her dozen brothers. The author has broadened her story, and tells the book through Dinah’s perspective. The book’s title refers to the tent in which women of Jacob’s tribe must, according to the ancient law, take refuge while menstruating or giving birth, and in which they find mutual support and encouragement from their mothers, sisters, and aunts. This book is a fictionalized version of the house of Jacob and really makes the Old Testament come alive.
The Book Club is being organized by Pastor Tina and Jennifer Rudolf.
