At Grace Lutheran, we know that we are called to be part of something bigger than ourselves…
Our congregation is a member of the Lower Susquehanna Synod.
The Lower Susquehanna Synod is one of 65 synods in the ELCA and one of seven ELCA synods in Pennsylvania. We are located in the central part of the state and cover a nine-county area that reaches from rural Fulton County to the urban areas of Harrisburg, York, and Lancaster. The synod is divided into 14 conferences– ours is the Southern York Conference. Our 239 congregations represent over 111,000 baptized members of the ELCA.
Grace Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We hold the Holy Scriptures as the source and norm of our teaching and believe, we affirm the three ecumenical creeds (Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian) and we hold the Book of Concord as the lens through which we understand our faith. Our faith is built around a strong belief in God as made known to us in Jesus Christ. Through worship, service, and education, we practice our faith, grow our relationship with God and experience God’s grace in our lives. To find out more about what ELCA Lutherans believe, check out a brief overview of our denomination’s teachings.
We also work hard to put our faith into action. In today’s complex world, we strive to make a difference in practical, realistic ways.
With almost 4 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations across the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, —we welcome you to experience this church right in your community. Explore the ELCA, and help us celebrate our gift of faith—with action.
We help support the Lutheran Camping Corporation of Central Pennsylvania which operates three facilities within the Lower Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. These facilities are Kirchenwald, Nawakwa, and The Wittel Farm. They offer a wide variety of outdoor experiences in a uniquely Lutheran tradition.
Summer camping programs for young people are offered at Nawakwa and Kirchenwald. Programs such as sports camps, outdoor wilderness camps, canoe camps, bike camps, and the traditional small group resident camp programs offer a wide variety of exciting programs for young people. There are also retreat programs for all ages throughout the year.
The Lutheran Social Services of South Central Pennsylvania with offices in York, Hanover and Gettysburg provides elder care living and support and many other social support services.
We are proud to support the ministry of publishing of the ELCA: 1517 Media. Under the umbrella of 1517 Media, there are various subdivisions, including Augsburg Fortress, where a number of adult education resources can be found, and Sparkhouse, which produces many resources for kids, teens, and adults. The resources available through 1517 Media are done with the teachings of the ELCA in mind, and we often use them for Parish Education.
