Pastor Courtney began serving at Grace Lutheran Church on Pentecost Sunday of 2017, and is both excited and honored to be called here. She was born in western Massachusetts but lived most of her childhood in Schenectady, NY, before heading off to college in Pennsylvania. She graduated from Messiah College in 2010 with a BA of History and then went on to earn an MDiv from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in 2015. During her seminary career she spent a year serving in Bethlehem with the Young Adults in Global Mission Program as well as completing a year-long internship with The Lutheran Center, the Nebraska Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to joining us at Grace she served at a two-point parish in central Nebraska. Pastor Courtney’s favorite thing about being a Lutheran is BAPTISM! You will hear her teaching and preaching about it a lot, and encouraging us to remember God’s promises to us in baptism whenever we can.

Pastor Courtney is married to the Rev. Ben Erzkus, who serves as a pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in York, PA. The two love spending time with their pets: two dogs, Ollivander and Bocephus, and a rabbit, Luna. They can be found gardening, exploring York and Lancaster counties through their stomachs, or playing music together. Pastor Courtney really enjoys arts and crafts, too. Her current projects include metal stamping, watercolors, and hand lettering. She is always up for meeting up for coffee or tea, and can’t wait to see what the Holy Spirit has in store for her Grace Lutheran family in the years to come!

Church Secretary: Mrs. Jocelyn Evans

Mrs. Jocelyn Evans has been the secretary at Grace since mid-November of 2017.  She came to Grace after working in the Special Education Department in a

Jocelyn with her best friend, husband Chuck!

Maryland Public Middle School for ten years.  Prior to working at the school she was a stay-at-home Mom to her three sons, and worked part-time as a

church secretary at two Maryland churches where her family worshiped.  She has enjoyed meeting and getting to know the Grace Lutheran church family, and the slower pace and the lack of middle school drama as compared to her previous work! Jocelyn feels blessed to be married to her very best friend, Chuck. God gave them the great privilege of raising three sons – Charlie, Ryan-Bryce, and Jake.  They are also blessed with a daughter-in-law, an amazing three-year-old grandson, and are anxiously awaiting the birth of their first granddaughter at the end of May! Jocelyn firmly believes that “God has been very good to our family!”

Director of Music: Dr. Mary Loyer

We are blessed by Mary’s musical talents as well as the way she makes singing and playing a faith-filled experience!

Dr. Mary Loyer has served as Organist and Director of Music at Grace Lutheran Church since 2015. She studied organ with Dr. William McRae, Gerald Mummert, and Donald Sutherland. Mary especially enjoys working with the Senior Choir and Ringers by Grace. She feels blessed to lead worship music during the traditional 10:45 AM service and appreciates the Christian fellowship shared at Grace Lutheran. Her favorite verse in scripture is: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:12-13)

Mary lives in Red Lion with her husband Jim and enjoys spending time with their seven grandchildren. She is also a freelance violinist and has performed with celebrities such as Tony Bennett, Shirley Jones, Henry Mancini, and Frances Drost.

Contemporary Music Director: Ms. Amy Fleming

Amy Fleming has served as our Contemporary Music Director since the formation of the Spirit Cellar contemporary worship service which started in 1999. As one of the band members she plays guitar, sings, and write songs that are incorporated within our services. Amy has a long history with Grace that extends even further, as she has been a member since 1983.
Amy, her wife Mindy, and their son Aaron live in Red Lion. Her eldest son, his wife, and her grandson live in New Hampshire with another grandchild due in January of 2019. In her free time she enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her family. Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!”
