Food Pantry

Grace Lutheran Church is the home of a food pantry that serves families who reside within the Red Lion Area School District. We routinely distribute food five times a year: September (at the start of school), Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and June (at the end of school). In order to qualify to receive food, participants must also meet State Income Guidelines, see chart below.

Here is a documentary on our activities created by the Lower Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Emergency Food Assistance Program

The Emergency Food Assistance Program is operated in accordance with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) policy, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. Eligibility is based upon the income guidelines listed below.

Total Household Income
(based on 150% of Poverty)
Household Size Annual Monthly Weekly
3 $28,635 $2,386 $551
4 $34,575 $2,881 $665
5 $40,515 $3,376 $779
6 $46,455 $3,871 $893
7 $52,395 $4,366 $1,008
8 $58,335 $4,861 $1,122
For each additional family member add: $5,940 $495 $114

If you want to apply for participation in the Emergency Food Assistance Program, you must fill in a form at our Church office where you state your houshold size and income and certify that a) your household size and income make you eligible for participation in the program, and that b) your household is currently live in the area served by Pennsylvania in The Emergency Food Assistance Program. This certification form is being completed in connection with the receipt of Federal assistance.

YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND, THOUGH, THAT MAKING A FALSE STATEMENT MAY RESULT IN YOUR HAVING TO PAY FOR THE VALUE OF THE FOOD IMPROPERLY ISSUED TO YOU AND MAY SUBJECT YOU TO CRIMINAL PROSECUTION UNDER STATE AND FEDERAL LAW.

Our pantry relies on funding from the State Food Purchase Program, donations from local organizations and churches and from individual donors. In spite of a recent 20% reduction in county monies, we have still been able to reach out to our regular clients as well as accept new clients throughout the year.

Even though we only distribute at five scheduled dates, emergency food orders consisting of canned goods and dry goods are available anytime by appointment. Because of reduced office hours at the church, you need to reach the Grace Lutheran Food Pantry by calling the following cell phone number: (717) 850-6300. If you do not reach a person, please speak clearly and slowly, leaving your name and a phone number where you can be reached. You will always receive a call back from the Food Pantry.

We started this out-reach ministry over 30 years ago, and through the years it has continued to grow into what you know now as the Grace Lutheran Food Pantry. It is our sincere hope that God will continue to bless us and our church as we strive to do His work—feeding the hungry!
